Basic Commands

AutoCAD Tutorial

In this tutorial we look at the basic commands you can use to get you on your way with AutoCAD. It will provide you with the basic knowledge you need to create most things in the programme.

AutoCAD like most software has many different ways of doing the same thing, for example to draw a simple Line, there are 3 possibilities, you can type L and ENTER to obtain the Line command or you can click on the Line Icon or you can go though the draw menu and click Line. They all achieve the same outcome,There are several ways to activate commands in AutoCAD but different people like to work in different ways, so use the way that you have learnt with, or which you feel most comfortable using.

If this is your 1st tutorial, and are totally starting from scratch with AutoCAD then I would suggest you follow this tutorial word for word, and stick with the command activation I suggest.

If however you have been learning to use AutoCAD, and the way I have described to achieve a command is not the way you have learnt, then please, please, please use your method! I can’t stress enough, that it is easier when you’re learning, to learn just one way of achieving commands.

As you become more experienced, you will undoubtedly learn all of the ways to achieve what you are trying to do, and will work with what is easiest, and most accessible at the time.

But please do follow the tutorials to achieve a consistent way of working.

There is a small tutorial at the end, which gives you a working example of all of the commands learnt throughout this page.

In this tutorial I will be teaching you all about:
